The state Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the potent synthetic opiate Carfentanil has been involved in a total of six deaths in New Hampshire.
That’s an uptick from three fatalities last month. Carfentanil is 100 times stronger than fentanyl and is designed as a tranquilizer for elephants.
The state’s Attorney General Gordan MacDonald said in a written statement Tuesday that stopping the supply of this deadly drug into the state is his top priority.
MacDonald said those arrested for selling this drug will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which could include a life sentence.
