The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services is inviting the public to tour air monitoring stations throughout the state this summer.
Air monitoring program manager Kendall Perkins demonstrated equipment use, spoke about the state-wide monitoring network, and answered questions for Laconia residents at a facility tour on Wednesday morning.
"A lot of people drive by these stations and they're not aware of what goes on in them," he said. "This is an opportunity for the public to come out and get informed about what we do."
Perkins said that awareness of air quality -- the amount of Ozone and particulate matter present in the air -- is especially important during the summer months.
Atendees also had the opportunity to test out an electric-powered lawn mower and weed trimmer, which emit fewer air pollutants than gas-powered alternatives.
Remaining tours are scheduled in Porstmouth on July 25 and Keene on August 1.
